Gleditsia triacanthos
The native Honey Locust is a very thorny tree that is not very suitable as a street tree. A thornless variety is very commonly planted, however. The Honey Locust produces long, bean-like seed pods with a sweet smell that gives the tree its name.
Thornless Honey Locusts are on the list of approved street trees in Red Oak.
